A new season is starting!

The Vilnius Theatre Lėlė, entering another new season, is looking forward to new creative challenges, the opening of the Great Hall, and most of all, the spectators missed so much during the summer, said the Theatre in a press release.

Already on the 25th-28th of August, the Theatre will open its doors to the youngest audience with the newest performance “About the World” directed by Justina Jukonytė, and the puppet show “Cinderella” created by the long-time director at Lėlė, Nijolė Indriūnaitė.

At the beginning of the new season, the audience will have the opportunity to see the premiere of the long-planned performance for children “Riddles” by Artist A. Bagočiūnaitė-Paukštienė. The performance is based on Lithuanian folk riddles, incantations, and proverbs and will invite the spectators to explore mythology by looking at the metaphors and images created by the actors. The music for the play has been composed by the talented composer Vytautas Leistrumas.

Finish of the Laboratories

On the Day of Science and Knowledge, i. e. the 1st of September, Lėlė will invite its audience to participate in the laboratory of modern puppet and object theatre “SurReality Check”, which will be taking place for a second year. During the laboratory, brave young Directors Linas Jurkštas, Balys Ivanauskas, Vaiva Ona Makūnaitė, Vita Smailytė and their teams will present the results of the creative experiments that took place all summer in the spaces of the Vilnius Theatre Lėlė – four different onsets/sketches of performances.

Premieres and opening of the Great Hall

In addition to the performance “Riddles”, the Theatre Lėlė will present three more performances this season. By the New Year, a play for adults, “Please take care of Mother” by Gintarė Radvilavičiūtė, one of the most talented creators of puppet theatre in Lithuania, will see the light of day. A performance of movement, choreography, puppets and masks will tell without words that many forgotten sacrifices lie deep in the heart of every family. Gintarė Radvilavičiūtė is the creator of the cult performances “The Sandman” and “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, which will be presented by the Theatre in Slovenia during a tour to the Ljubljana Puppet Theater at the end of September.

After the New Year, the duo of Director Ainis Storpirštis and Artist Neringa Keršulytė, already known from the performances “O Lord, Vilnius!” and “Oh Lord, Lithuania!”, will demonstrate their youthful eagerness and original creative flair in the performance for children “Junior and Karlsson, who lives on the roof” by Astrid Lindgren. Also, in the second half of the season, a performance by Paulius Tamolė for children, dedicated to the 700th birthday of Vilnius, will be shown in the Great Hall.

At the end of October, on the occasion of the Theatre’s 64th anniversary, Lėlė plans to invite its audience to the opening of the Great Hall. At the same time, the Theatre will host the international project “EU Contemporary Puppetry Critical Platform”, during which performances of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre will be shown in the Great Hall.

According to the Manager of the Theatre, Vilmantas Juškėnas, this season of Lėlė is dedicated to updating the repertoire of the Great Hall and returning to it the repertory performances loved by the audience.
